3 Reasons You Are Overcomplicating Things in Your Business [ep.127]

3 Reasons You Are Overcomplicating Things in Your Business

Hello lovely lady and welcome to Higher Self and I!

As humans, we LOVE overcomplicating things for no reason. Many business owners crave ease, flow, and simplicity, yet they still fall into the trap of overcomplicating things. It's almost as if when showing up in your business comes easily to you, and clients are drawn to you just by your personality shining through, it somehow feels wrong.

Most of us were raised in a world where we were told things like "you should work hard for your money, nobody likes their job, but you need to pay bills." And so, subconsciously, you make things difficult for yourself. You try new strategies, new coaches, and new programs, pushing yourself to a point where your business no longer brings you happiness. You start procrastinating, feeling resentful towards your clients, experiencing burnout—misaligned in one word.

As you can see, today's podcast episode is going to be a spicy one. But my intention is not to rip you to pieces; it's to bring awareness to why you may be feeling so misaligned right now. Join me as I talk about 3 reasons why you are overcomplicating things in your business, how to stop it, and instead start operating from a place that feels good to you and aligns with your CEO archetype.

Topics covered on Overcomplicating Things in Your Business:

  1. When do we most often tend to overcomplicate things in business?

  2. How did my client achieve success by embracing her authentic self?

  3. What happens when you start replicating someone else’s style instead of embracing your own uniqueness?

  4. How to break free from the cycle of making things more difficult for yourself?

  5. Why do I adapt my approach to each of my clients individually?

  6. Simplistic strategies that work for you as a human and your CEO archetype.

  7. This is why I call to my 1:1 packages as 'mentorship'.

  8. The problem of constantly working with a coach or enrolling into another program.

  9. You don’t have to overcomplicate things in your business to be successful.

  10. How do I differentiate my coaching style from other coaches out there?

[00:00:00] Oh, hey, honey Burn. Welcome back to Higher Self and I, I hope you're well. I hope you're good. Very excited for you to be here today. We are looking at three reasons why you are over complicating things in your business. I know. We love to overcomplicate things as humans, don't we? All we want to do is to have things come easy to us and things to be like a drop in the ocean.

[00:00:28] Just so easy. And yet we love to overcomplicate everything. We love to overcomplicate our thoughts. We love to overcomplicate our strategy. We love to o overcomplicate how we do everything. And that's what we're gonna have a look at today. Now I see over complication coming from a couple of places, and this is what I'm gonna speak through today, the three reasons.

[00:00:51] But first of all, I actually wanted to start with why I see over complication, and a lot of the times that I do is because you are falling into someone's strategy. Someone's way of doing things, someone's personality, someone's c e o archetype, who has done something in a successful way, and you believe that that is the way that it needs to be done.

[00:01:20] You believe that that is the way that you need to show up, and you believe that that is the way that you can be successful. And actually because you are trying to guess and be and force yourself into a strategy that doesn't suit you or your personality or your co archetype, you start to feel misaligned.

[00:01:42] So it starts to feel overcomplicated. It starts, you start to feel resistance, and then you go around in this circle and then you choose someone else to watch or you choose someone else to, um, to invest in. And you are in this constant loop of actually making it a lot difficult for yourself, and I don't want you to do that anymore.

[00:02:06] So I'm gonna use one of my clients and as, as an example, so my client was having the most amount of success that I have ever seen her have in business so far since we've been working together. And the reason why she stepped fully into this success is because she was operating from herself. She was operating from how she wanted to show up, how she wanted to do things, how she wanted to sell things, how she wanted to launch things.

[00:02:41] And actually there was a bit of fire. There was a bit of, um, spiciness about her and the way she was showing up was so freaking powerful. And it was working. It was really freaking working. And actually what happened is it was working so much [00:03:00] and clients were coming in and she was signing more clients and more clients that she got to a point where she was like, oh wow.

[00:03:09] Okay. Well, I need to add something else now, then, uh, there's gotta, there's gotta be something else that I need to add because this is far too freaking easy. Me being me and showing up and stunning in my power. Hell no. It can't be the symbol. I must make it complicated. So what started to happen? Is actually, she joined a, a, a program as, and still had me as a one-to-one coach as well, but she joined a program and started to listen to this very successful coach in this program and started to implement all of the strategies that this successful coach was, was telling her.

[00:03:46] Great, fine. However, what it started to do is it started to veer her off to start showing up in her business. Like this said, successful coach was doing. So I saw a change in the way she was writing content. I saw a change in the way she was making her content graphics wise, and she was really slowly falling into becoming basically a replica of her.

[00:04:13] Now she's fine with me saying this. We've spoke about it a lot, and she's quite, she's very, very aware that this happened and we now are not in this anymore. But this is what I see happening time and time again. I do not want a hundred mini Rebecca Haydons. I do not want you to do your stories the way I do them.

[00:04:33] I don't want you to show up the way I show up. I want you to stand in your own c e o archetype. I want you to stand in your own power, and I want you to go, Hey, like this is a fricking good strategy that Becky is teaching me, and now I'm going to make that work for me. Because I'm not here to hold your hand and to give you a step-by-step guide of how to do it.

[00:04:57] And I'm not here to tell you to do it the same way as I've done it cause it's gonna look different. We all show up in different ways, we all have different values, we all have different lives, we all have different ways of doing things. And actually when you are trying to. Put yourself into those boxes.

[00:05:14] Exactly. Like I was talking about on the last podcast. When you're trying to put yourself into those different boxes, that's when you start to feel that you are over complicating things. So, We were on a very good run, and when she started to kind of push, push herself, and again, this was very subconscious, very, very subconscious.

[00:05:33] She started to follow the coach. Great. Started to follow her strategy. Great. The strategy's great, but she was starting to kind of morph herself into that coach, and she was just feeling so unaligned, so overwhelmed. So overcomplicated, she was tired, she was getting burnt out, and we had a conversation where she was like, my business cannot run like this.

[00:05:59] And I said, [00:06:00] well, I know because the person that you are trying to take the strategy from doesn't have your life. Your life looks very different to hers in the way of time, in the way of how much time she has to put in the business, in the way, in the, in lots of different ways. It doesn't look the same, and this is why it's feeling over complicated.

[00:06:24] So if right now, Business is feeling overcomplicated for you. We're gonna go through a couple of reasons why that might be the case. And again, this is not here to absolutely rip you apart. Okay? This is here to bring some awareness into why it could be feeling so unaligned right now, and that's what I want for you because I want you to start operating your business from a place that feels good for you.

[00:06:52] Because if I said to that client back when she was feeling so unaligned, okay, I want you to carry on doing that exact same thing for the next five years, where would you be? She would probably answer in the ground, because she was getting that burnt out. It was feeling that unaligned, the things that she was launching were not cohesive to where she wanted to be, to who she wanted to talk to, to the mission that she had, to the purpose that she had.

[00:07:17] Everything was feeling so unaligned. And actually the moment that she stepped out of the investment that she made, and again, this is not me shitting on anyone here, but the moment that she stepped out of it, she, she could see clearly what had happened. And I ain't here to be in a fucking pyramid scheme, and I'm not here to have a hundred people doing the same things.

[00:07:40] You know, a big value of mine, and I see it happen to me all the time is when I'm doing something and then, Someone else, or lots of people start doing it. I'm like, okay, I'm out. I'm not doing the same thing. No, no, no, no. I hate, I hate doing the same thing as everyone else. This is probably, if you look back at my life, you know, there's a lot of, there's a lot of times where I've done something very different to everyone else, and whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, I don't know.

[00:08:07] But I don't like it. And actually, when you look at a lot of the industry, it is a lot of copycatting. It is a lot of doing the same thing as everyone else is doing because you think it's gonna work for you. But what if you actually did what you wanted to do? In a way that felt strategic, that you could follow it, that you could trust yourself, that you could show up and sign clients because that's where you can get to.

[00:08:32] The way I speak to one client is very different to the way that I speak to another client, because everyone operates in a different way, whether that's your personality. Whether that's your background and your beliefs, whether that's how you learn, you know, are you visual? Are you auditory? Are you kinesthetic?

[00:08:50] Everyone is going to be very different. And actually, if you are trying to push yourself into a strategy from a, um, a coach that's teaching it from a visual point of [00:09:00] view, but you are actually auditory, you ain't gonna have a you, that's not gonna resonate with you. At all. So let's get back to simplistic strategies and not only simplistic strategies.

[00:09:12] Strategies that work for you as a human, as a c, as your c e o archetype. So the first thing that I see when you start to over complicate things in your business is that you don't fully trust yourself, and this is because you are so consumed about looking. Outside of yourself for the answers that you stop actually listening to what you want to do.

[00:09:37] You stop listening to how you want it to feel, and that's why I call my one-to-one package mentorship because I work alongside my clients for them to find what works for them. Now, some clients it might look exactly the same as me cuz they might have the exact same personality and show up exactly the same way.

[00:09:56] Great. But for other clients, it might not look. Similar at all, and that's okay. And being able to, I am, I'm able to, you know, I've done this for a very long time now, like I'm able to mold myself into different ways, into different coaching aspects, into different ways. I deliver things to my clients so they can fully understand from the c e O profile that they come from.

[00:10:22] So when you are over complicating and that that lack of trust is coming in, that's when you can see yourself over-consuming overlearning, constantly listening to podcasts, thinking that the books are gonna give you the answers. Coach hopping, you literally finish one investment, you're straight into another.

[00:10:38] You don't ever give yourself a chance to do it your fucking self, like, That's when you are letting go of the trust. You're going, okay, that's fine. I've still got something missing, and so many people ask me, oh, who's your coach at the moment? Or like, who have you been coaching with? I actually went for a very, very long time without a coach.

[00:11:00] In fact, I did a mastermind that finished in August of 2022, and I didn't work with a coach again until January. And the coach that I worked with in January was a three month stint because I just needed some focus and I knew exactly what I was hiring her for. Now, this isn't me saying that you shouldn't invest.

[00:11:19] You know how important it is too. If you're coming from a place of this is why I'm investing, this is the growth I need and this is what I want to get from this coach. But actually I find a lot of people are coach hop in and they're not building the trust at all. You know, you're not, you are not going, okay, what would I want to do?

[00:11:37] How do I feel? I need to show up for myself right now because I don't tap on my fucking C client's doors every morning and go, come on. Then it's time to wake up. Have you done your stories today? Have you planned your content out today? Like, I'm not here for that. I'm not here to hold your hand. I'm here to empower you to step into the next level and for, to hold the safety in that next level.[00:12:00]

[00:12:00] So if you. Keep pushing yourself out of the mistrust, then how are you ever going to go alone? And a lot of the time you are constantly investing in other coaches and you're not actually investing in the business. You know that money that you're spending on your coach could be going on a team member to help you grow or to, to support you in a different way, or to support your systems or to support whatever that looks like.

[00:12:27] Really doing myself a disservice here about telling you not to invest. But what I mean by it is it's coming from a place of, Ooh, I need that person to save me. That coach knows what she's on about, so I'm gonna hire her and it is gonna be amazing and she's gonna make this work for me. No, you are going to make this work for you because you trust yourself.

[00:12:49] Oh my God, I am on it today. I feel like I'm whipping your ass. So really start to have a look at where are you looking external, and for those who have coaches right now, if you're listening to this and you are either my client or you are in a different container, the reason why I love the clients that I attract is because they come to me with solution based problems.

[00:13:15] That's how I want you to show up for your coach or your mentor. I want you to go, Ooh, okay, this is a sticky bit in my business right now. What do I think I would do? What do I think I would do right now? I. How do I wanna show up as my higher self and solve this problem right now? Have a look at it first, and then go to your coach and mentor and go, okay, this is what's happened.

[00:13:41] This is actually what I think I should do right now. I'm building the trust, I'm building the trust around myself. And I would love to have your, in your feedback. I would love to have your, um, your thoughts on this. Rather than going to them and being like, this isn't working. Oh my God, nothing's working.

[00:13:58] Please help me. Please save me. That is not the energy that you want to be bringing to your coach. That is not the energy that you wanna be bringing to your mastermind, to whatever container that you are in. Those containers are not there. To, to save you. They're there to grow you, and it's how you show up to that container that's gonna really fucking change things for you.

[00:14:19] Because if you don't trust yourself when you hire the coach and then you continuously, um, lean on them the whole time and you don't learn to trust yourself within the container, what happens when, when the container finishes, you jump straight to the next person to help you. And then I'll tell you what happens.

[00:14:38] You then blame the coach for it not working. Because actually you haven't had the time to understand what you want to do yourself, how you want to trust yourself, and if this is triggering you in any way, that is okay because I was there too. I was thinking that every freaking coach that I worked with was gonna save me, and I [00:15:00] would get to the end of every single container and I'd be like, well, it's their fault.

[00:15:06] That's what they promised me, and it didn't fucking happen. Must be their fault. But what if actually it was that I wasn't trusting myself enough, that I wasn't stepping into that enough and that I wasn't actually operating from somewhere that would really resonate with myself. So really look into that trust.

[00:15:26] Where are you lacking trust in your business, and where is it coming from? I want you to work on that first. The second thing I see with Over complication is that you're comparing your business to others that you see on social media. Every single time that they tell, like every single time that, that that coach that you follow incessantly, I don't even think that's the word, but every single time you, you kind of fu you see that coach have a win, it maybe triggers you or you kind of start to second guess yourself and there's so much noise and you're trying this and, oh, I'll screenshot their story and then I'll write it this way and that, no, I'll do it this way.

[00:16:05] That is constantly coming from an external point of view, and this is why I push my clients so far out of their comfort zone because I want them to think for themselves. I want it to come from them. I said it on the last podcast, if my client asks me a question about their business, I ask the exact same question back.

[00:16:22] I want them to answer it because it's their fucking business. They're not gonna have me there all the time. You know, clients, I would freaking love to have you all like forever and ever and always, because I love you so much, but I don't want you to be dependent on me for the rest of your life. Yes, we can be friends, but I don't want you to be dependent on you growing your business or you working on your mindset for the rest of your life.

[00:16:44] Like I want the trust to come from you. And that's where the magic happens within my container is when we really start to build that trust. My clients come to me with, with ideas, with things that they're thinking about. Oh, what about this and what about this? That's when it's exciting because it's coming from you rather than me saying, okay.

[00:17:03] I, it needs to be this next and this is how we do it. And you're like, oh God, no. That feels really unaligned to me. And I'm like, well, you tell me what you wanna do then. So really start to have a look where you are comparing your business to others that you see on social media. One, you don't know the back half of it.

[00:17:21] Two, you don't know how they show up, what life they have and how they like to operate as a person. And three, you are actually not trusting yourself again. So if you are comparing yourself, if you're. If you're screenshotting stories af every fucking day to be like, that's how I'm gonna do my stories next time.

[00:17:36] I want you to stop it and I want you to trust yourself. The third thing, With over complication is, is you like making things hard for yourself and quite frankly, that's okay. We all like to do that because nothing can come easy to us, surely to God. Like everything has to be a struggle, surely to God. And you know, we can't run a business from something that we are so passionate and sign these [00:18:00] clients and make all this money for something that we love.

[00:18:03] I'm like, no, I didn't grow up in a world where you could enjoy your job. I didn't grow up in a world where people really loved going to work. Did you? So we have this feeling like, this kind of belief that we have to make things hard for ourself to, in order to be successful. And yes, having your, having your business.

[00:18:23] Is fucking hard work, but don't make it harder than it needs to be. Don't make it harder than it needs to be. And actually when you are feeling like you're over complicating things, come back to the root. Come back to your why. Come back to your mission. Come back to your values. Is that aligned right now or are you off somewhere down jewelry lane?

[00:18:42] I dunno why jewelry lane into my head. But are you off somewhere having a lovely time watching other people thinking that you should do it that way and you've gone so far away from what you started the business for, you've actually forgot. So, whew, I'm gonna take a breath. Might have a glass of wine after this one, cuz this one was hardcore.

[00:19:01] But for me, more than anything, and you know how much I love my clients and I love holding space and I love being their mentor because they trust themselves and some of them think that they don't. But I'm a very sneaky subconscious coach, and I know what I'm doing, and it's not manipulation. Hell no, it isn't.

[00:19:25] It's actually really pushing it back to them, pushing them out of their comfort zone and making them think for themselves. Really have a look at going back to your why, to your mission, to your values, but more than that, knowing how you want to operate as a C E O, knowing how you want to operate as a human.

[00:19:48] Because that's where the power is going to come in. And second guessing what you're doing makes you feel bad about yourselves, and it's not a pleasant place to be. And actually, if you desire to build the self trust and then to be able to guide yourself even within a mentorship container and not just blindly trust in what the experts and coaches are telling you, that's where the magic is gonna happen.

[00:20:12] You hold that self-trust. You are the person who knows yourself the best. And when you understand how you operate as a CEO and how you operate as a person, you can make decisions based on that, on your intuition rather than blindly following someone that maybe doesn't have the same, the same life, the same synchronicities as you as to how you operate.

[00:20:41] They don't know that. So that's what allows you to take the best out of coaching containers, out of mentorships and actually finding a strategy that suits you. That's when I see my clients blossom, and that's why, why I operate so bespokely from one client to another. If people come in and ask [00:21:00] me what I do, I say it really fucking depends on the client.

[00:21:03] That's how I work as a coach. That's how I work as your mentor. So, Really have a look at that. Building the self-trust, operating your business in the most effective way, and that's when the over complication will finish. I love you lots. DM me if this spoke to you. If you need support, if you want guidance in this, send me a dm.

[00:21:29] Trust yourself. We're gonna be good. Love you lots.
